My name is Machaela, and I have been drawing ever since I can remember! In 2017 received my BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas, a multi-disciplinary program where I focused in painting.

The name Lightpaint comes from the word for photography, which literally means “light writing”. The idea of painting something in the moment calls up the immediacy of the medium of photography, however in this case it is more “light painting” than “light writing”. I am capturing a moment and translating it that to the slow and beautiful form of brush strokes on a canvas.

I would consider myself a painter’s painter—I love Sargent, Turner, Wyeth, Schmid, Van Gogh—I love brushstrokes and subtlety and paintings that feel very much like paintings. I’m not particularly interested in photorealism or in a more illustrational style but in creating a work of art that feels refined but still carries the inimitable loveliness of the artist’s hand.
